    Reporting to the SVP, DHX Animation Production and working closely with the Studio and other department leaders, you will play a critical role in the design of the studios’ overall operation and strategy. As the Director, 3D Animation Production, you will influence and contribute to how we execute on our strategic priorities and to creating a workplace and culture that is the “talk of the town”.

    The role:

     

    The Director, 3D Animation Production will help drive the Halifax Studio’s strategic operational vision through efficient work processes and an amazing workplace culture where artists want to grow their career.

    Responsibilities

          You’ll drive studio operational excellence in several ways:

    • Operations Management: You’ll effectively manage the day to day operations of the studio for three to four  3D animated productions that is supported by over 200+ crew, manages producers, line producers and operations managers
    • Project planning and tactical execution: Reviewing and approving budget and schedules prior to delivery to SVP Animation production
    • Collaborating with cross functional teams: Partner with studio executives on client management, bid strategy and on-going high level of client service delivery
    • Collaborate with lead creative and IT to set parameters, pipeline and resources required for all new productions
    • Be an active and engaged collaborator with the Talent team in developing strategies to help attract, retain, develop and engage employees
    • Actively participate in long and short term workforce management planning
    • Partner with studio technology (locally and studio-wide) regarding pipeline and tools upgrades for CG production
    • Partner with VP, Creative Development on R&D effort and establishing new production methodologies
    • Managing and improving processes: Be an active thought leader for developing or reengineering cost-effective implementation and admin of operational controls, technological solutions, functional processes and procedures

    Specific skills we’d love to see:

    • Been there done that – and still open to learning and new experiences – 5+ years of animated studio management experience
    • Excellent communication skills – listening, written, and spoken: You understand how to collaborate across teams and how to optimize communication when working with people at all levels with varying styles. You know how to share your opinions clearly and thoughtfully with leaders and are comfortable doing so.
    • Experience building, developing and leading a team: You bring insights from your past experience, whether that’s helping build a people-focused function from the ground up or helping one grow and develop. You are a coach and identify development, improvement and engagement opportunities that support and encourage high performance and excellent client servicing.
    • Flare for creativity – the studio is a community of artists - the work environment needs to foster that creativity
    • Ability to approach situations with a process/systems perspective. We have a lot going on and can always be more effective and streamlined.  We need a solid foundation to build all the exciting programs and initiatives on
