As the Business and Legal Affairs, Counsel, you will influence and contribute to how we execute on our strategic priorities and deliver the best animated content to the world!

    Responsibilities

    The role

     

    The Business and Legal Affairs, Counsel, based in Vancouver, will drive all legal and business support in animation production in Vancouver and Halifax in several ways:

    • Negotiating and drafting: Structuring, negotiating and drafting rights acquisition, development, production service, Canadian content, and co-production agreements including CRTC co-ventures and treaty co-productions and advising on tax credit eligibility;
    • Clearances: Providing legal clearance services on our animation productions;
    • Financing: Assisting with interim financing transactions;
    • Collaborating with legal colleagues: Effectively communicating and working with lawyers and business affairs colleagues as part of a global DHX team
    • Collaborating with cross functional teams: Providing on-going legal and business affairs advice to various stakeholders in the company; partnering with studio executives on client management, bid strategy and on-going high level of service delivery

    Qualifications

    You will be a great fit on our team if…

    • You possess J.D./LL.B. and 5 years of legal experience in the entertainment industry
    • You are a maven when it comes to negotiating acquisition agreements with global media and broadcast companies and digital media platforms;
    • You are a master of juggling multiple priorities
    • You have a broad understanding of production, distribution, digital rights and policies affecting the regulatory regime of the Canadian television and interactive media industries;
    • You thrive on variety – no two days will be the same
    • You are passionate about a Studio environment and are willing to go the extra mile duringan exciting, fast paced time.
    • You can create a path for yourself in ambiguous situations, and you tackle big questions by applying structured yet creative thinking and analysis.
    • You have a collaborative spirit. You’re willing to work on a wide range of projects in support of the collective success, and you’re not one to say, “that’s not my job.”
