    The Vice President of Development-Animation is responsible for sourcing and developing DHX’s diverse slate of original IP and expanding our existing brands. DHX’s animation slate covers multi-genre from preschool to teen programming and appeals to domestic and international buyers. A key focus of the slate is building properties to become strong brands and activate the expertise of each division to create successful franchise. Creative excellence will be achieved by working in close collaboration with the EVP of Content to ensure all divisions within DHX are active across our key development initiatives. The Vice President of Development- Animation has the responsibility of maintaining strong relationships with key contacts within the television industry including; broadcast development executives, artists and writers while forging new relationships within creative community to ensure our slate remains innovative, timely and commercial.

    • Build a creative and diverse animation slate across multiple genres and demographics
    • Craft teams with experienced Showrunners/Head Writers at the helm
    • Expand the overall slate through traditional and non-traditional sources
    • Ability to write RFP’s on what DHX is looking for next
    • Liaise between Producers / Executive Producers, Network Executives and Creators/Showrunners on each project
    • Initiate and nurture relationships with writers to develop new ideas and meet emerging talent
    • Communicate with domestic and international broadcasters regularly, in addition to specific pitch meetings
    • Lead and provide creative feedback on all materials throughout the development process
    • Manage the development team's goals, deadlines and time effectively
    • Monitor and remain current with the trends in programming
    • Supervise maintenance of development database, including payments and deliverables, option renewals, etc.
    • Oversee the studio Incubator Program to generate new ideas and mentor talent
    • Oversee projects as they move into production to ensure a smooth hand off to the production team and creative leads on the project
    • Attend major television markets on an as needed basis (Mipcom, Kidscreen)
    • Lead the creative development on projects we decide to incubate and fund on Wildbrain but have long form interest in
    • Assess new properties for current domestic and international appeal, as well as appropriate partnership models i.e. when it makes sense to seek out a co-production partner
    • Build a roster of talent for not only development but future production reference (writers, directors, actors, studios, partners)
    • Manage the business aspects of development (i.e. creating development budgets and schedules)
    • Work with management team to prioritize projects and allocate time and effort accordingly
    • Report to EVP of Content on active needs of the department


    • A creative individual with a track record developing kids and family television series with commercial appeal
    • Ability to produce script coverage and analysis, write synopses and loglines, and write effective development notes a must
    • Contacts within the production and broadcast industry
    • Proven leadership ability
    • 7-10 years’ experience developing and producing Kids and Family Content
    • The confidence to believe in your gut reaction to a project and fight for it, and ultimately a love for what we’re making, kids tv!!!
