    DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Key Animation Supervisor to join our team! 

     

    The role:

     

    We're looking for Supervisors to lead our team of Key Animators and support the team throughout production. This will include attending meetings & reviews, following up on notes & requests, working with the team to hit episodic targets, mentoring artists and helping them learn and stay on show style. You'll need the ability to spot and create strong, expressive storytelling poses and have a solid understanding of character design, staging, perspective and model.

     

    The team will be applying their traditional animation background and drawing skills, exceptional sense of timing for action sequences and acting, and knowledge of Flash to produce a weekly quota of rough animation. 

    Responsibilities

    You will get to:

    • Review animatics with Directors and break down the board for distribution to your crew
    • Attend production meetings, handoffs, and reviews
    • Tracking materials, notes and communication with Directors, other departments, and production team
    • Keep on top of production milestones and help the team prepare to meet deadlines, motivate and help the artists to reach weekly and episodic targets
    • Communicate revisions requirements to Key Animators
    • Work with the production coordinator to track the team's progress
    • Guide, mentor and coach a diverse team of artists, be available to the team for questions and communication
    • Review animatics to help find and apply reuse animation and poses
    • Utilize and build upon the existing rough animation library, and organize additional materials and references as they come up 
    • Collaborate in a team environment
    • Work on other related tasks and responsibilities as needed

    Qualifications

    You will be a great fit on our team if you have…

    • Top notch drawing skills, knowledge of anatomy and structure, ability to keep characters on model
    • Advanced traditional/rough key posing and animation skills suited to the style of production, including a high skill level with action scenes
    • Strong creative problem-solving skills
    • Ability to be flexible and work collaboratively within a team
    • Accountability, self-motivation and strong time management skills required for a fast-paced environment
    • Effective and professional communication skills
    • Aspiration to keep on the cutting edge of art, animation and culture

    Specific skills we’d love to see… 

    • 3+ years of experience as a Key Animator or Animator on a 2D series
    • Previous experience creating traditional/classical 2D animation within any digital software (Flash, Harmony, TV Paint, etc.)
    • Leadership experience as a Supervisor/Lead
