    WildBrain Studios is looking for an experienced Background Colour Artist to join our team!  You may have known us as DHX Media – we’ve recently changed our name to reflect our renewed commitment to pushing the creative and focusing on the artist experience.     The role:


    In this role, you'll be responsible for choosing the colour palette for the BG designs to complement the overall ambience of the production. This is an excellent opportunity for artists with a solid understanding of colour theory, and a love for background painting.


    You will get to: 

    • Implement colour schemes for the Key BG Designs, utilizing a strong sense of how colours complement one another for the requested mood, setting, time of day, etc.
    • Submit multiple design variations and revisions based on feedback from the Art Director
    • Ensure consistency and quality throughout your work, keeping within production deadlines
    • Work on other design-related tasks and responsibilities as requested

    • You are adaptable, accountable and self-motivated with excellent time management skills 
    • You are able to productively discuss, make decisions, and communicate ideas in a wide variety of aesthetic areas

    Specific skills we’d love to see…  

    • Demonstrated skills and experience with background painting for 2D Animation 
    • Proficiency in 2D Design software such as Photoshop and Toon Boon Harmony
    • Experience with Character/Prop Colour and/or BG Design is an asset
    • Strong knowledge and understanding of colour, art and design theories for 2D animation
    • Strong understanding of perspective and composition demonstrated in your portfolio
    • Degree/Diploma at a recognized animation school and/or equivalent experience
